This project, originally titled "Community Kiki" (A kiki is a social gathering, usually for the purpose of casually “kicking back,” gossiping, and sharing stories. It is historically connected to LGBTQ communities. Alternatively, kiki is also the name of a ballroom drag subculture that celebrates gender nonconformity, racial diversity, and sexual openness. source: dictionary.com) aims to showcase real experiences and perspectives of black individuals.
What we all need are more conversations that help us to better understand the world around us. When we can't have these conversations, we can seek out information that puts human faces to civil rights issues. My hope is through humanizing these topics, we can create greater empathy, understanding, and a deeper desire for all humans to have fair, just lives.
Black lives matter and these are some of the humans that we stand up for when we say just that. Queer lives matter and these are some of the humans that we stand up for when we say just that.
